WELCOME TO AEGIS

WHAT WE DO
Here in the Aegis program, we aspire to educate our viewers and become a large community where you can express your emotions and ideas on these ongoing problems. There are numerous problems going on in the wildlife world such as climate change, illegal wildlife trading, poaching, pollution, habitat destruction, fragmentation, and modification caused by human-led activities that have taken an extreme toll on threatened and endangered wildlife populations at an alarming rate. What do you think of this?

AEGIS
Our innovation follows a two-pointed approach–safety for the people and safety for the wild animals. How does it work? The cameras will be set up in different locations where there is frequent animal movement. It is mandatory for all the vehicles going through the reserve to install an application on their phone when they enter the check post. There is another benefit of installing the application. The forest department will be able to track if the vehicle has come out of the forest range or is still in the forest range for a long time. The system is developed using Raspberry Pi and a camera to recognize the animal. A set of images of the animals in the reserve is captured at different angles for the identification of animals. When the system detects recognizable images of the animal and if it matches with the repository, the device will click the picture and alert the driver to slow down. The image will be saved in a folder and the forest department will get a notification saying “true” which means an animal is detected near this area. Since there are multiple cameras located in different areas, the tracking of the animal movement is possible. The technology using Raspberry Pi, face recognition, and cloud data can be harnessed to find solutions to social and environmental issues thereby creating an attitude of acceptance and creating a world of coexistence.
